Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does Kappa Kappa Psi do?
A: We are the ones behind the scenes that set up the chairs, stands, and equipment for all band ensembles including but not limited to Marching Band, Symphony Band, Wind Ensemble, and Concert Band. We are in charge of uniforms for the Marching Mountaineers. We believe it is an honor to serve. We can be found giving a helping hand anywhere it’s needed. Examples of this include helping freshmen move into their dorms for band camp and passing out water bottles and snacks to the band members at football games. When we aren't helping the bands, the brotherhood likes to get together for various social events and we often spend time getting to know the other Greek music organizations on campus.
Q: Who can become a brother of KKPsi?
A: Any enrolled student with an established GPA of 2.5 or higher at App State that plays a band instrument can potentially join Kappa Kappa Psi. You must have already participated in one ensemble before your proposed semester of candidacy. This means that freshmen must wait until the Spring semester and a prospective member should be in one of the various band ensembles at App State. You must devote time to the organization and the band programs of Appalachian State. As a Brother, you must complete a required amount of service per week. A Brother is a leader, is cooperative, and overall has a passion for service to college and university bands.
Q: How do I become a member of Kappa Kappa Psi?
A: We have a Recruitment Week every semester and if you're interested in joining our Brotherhood, you can come out and learn about us as an organization. After Recruitment week if you choose to take part in the process you will have to submit a letter of intent, upon which you may or may not receive a bid from Kappa Kappa Psi.
Q: How long does it take to become a Brother?
A: It takes anywhere from 7-12 weeks to become a Brother.
Q: Does Kappa Kappa Psi travel to places?
A: From time to time, Brothers travel to other chapters to visit and attend their chapter's events. There are numerous conferences that we have the option of attending every year as well. When the Marching Mountaineers travel, brothers also travel with them.
Q: What are some of the top reasons for joining Kappa Kappa Psi?
A: 1. It’s a way to give back to music for all it has done for us.
2. It is a group of caring people that will support you like a family during AND after your college career.
3. It provides leadership opportunities, a way to get more involved on campus, and professional networking.
